France, as many countries, has a very precise immigration legislation.

For EEC members, the procedure is very simple but must be respected.

For non EEC members, the procedure is longer and requires, in particular, an agreement from the Ministry of Labour.

 

  • The type of resident card and work permit the employer may apply for depends on the personal and professional situation of the employee:

    • the nationality (EEC or not EEC) 

    • the length of the stay (less or more than 18 months)

    • the reason for your stay in France

    • the direct employer (the company abroad or the French subsidiary)

    • the social security situation

    • the professional situation (experience, amount of salary ...)

If the emplyee's family is coming to live in France, they will also need resident cards.

  • For non EEC, depending on the status and the type of resident card and work permit  applied for, a file is made up and several French Organizations may be involved in the approval and delivery procedure, principally :

    • ANPE (French National Agency for Unemployment)

    • DDTE (Ministry of Labour, foreign workers)

    • OMI (International Migration Office)

    • The French Consulate in your country (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

    • DDASS (Ministry of Labour, social affairs)

    • French Prefecture (Ministry of Internal Affairs)

The total procedure to obtain the final resident card and work permit approval and delivery can take between 1,5 and 3,5 months, (depending on the type you are applying for), and will require, in any case, a medical visit in your country .

  • For EEC members, the procedure involves only the French Prefecture

  • Last point : depending on the work permit and resident card you are applying for, and if you come with your family, be prepared to bring with you : passport, original of your diplomas, CV (resume), original of marriage certificate , original of children birth certificate, work contract, 3 pay slips etc...
